Angela Quintal has recently been appointed as the new incoming editor of The Mercury from November 1 2009. Presently, the Executive Editor on The Star Newpaper, Quintal will succeed David Canning, who retired earlier this year, but remained on as editor at the company's request.

Angela Quintal is the recently appointed editor of The Mercury a newspaper that is situated in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and she will begin her editorial work from the first of November 2009. Angela, who is currently the Executive Editor of The Star, will take over from her predecessor- David Cunning.
“I was privileged to have had a great team of journalists and am looking forward to finding some new ways of serving the community. I have worked with Angela, as our former group political editor, for a number of years and know that I am leaving the paper in very capable hands.” said Cunning.
Tony Howard, the chief executive of Independent News and Media said that they are delegating one of the newspapers oldest titles to Angela, and that they are ‘delighted to do so” (bizcommunity, 2009). “With the help of The Mercury's experienced and dedicated editorial team, I have no doubt that we will be able meet the challenges facing the industry both at home and overseas, and that the paper will continue to flourish and evolve in this digital age” (Quintal, 2009)
Angela is a prestigious South African political journalist and she is well known throughout the country. Angela studied at Rhodes University, obtaining a well paid- off education in the dynamic field of Journalism. Angela is a brilliant writer and she has won many high-status awards to prove it. She was and still is until the first of November the Executive Editor of The Star within Independent Newspapers (Pty) Ltd, she has been working in this firm for the last year and two months, she began working for them in September 2008.
Angela is also a Group Political Editor of Independent Newspapers, South Africa which is a privately held newspaper industry, she began working there in May 2004 until the month of August in 2008, and she therefore served them for four years and four months. Angela also occupied herself as a Parliamentary Editor; she began working in the Parliament section in April of 2003 and moved on from there in May of 2004.
In the year of 2004, the Media Institute of Southern Africa congratulated Quintal on her achievement of occupying the post of Group Political editor of Independent Newspapers.( MISA-SA media brief 2004, volume 2#7)
It is evident from the above information that Angela Quintal is a very hard working, diligent writer. She has joined many firms in the attempt to make a contribution to the news industry of South Africa, a country, in evidence that she is very proud of.
